Operating equipment + hygiene technology for cleanrooms

MSD Tiergesundheit produces sterile veterinary medicinal products at its Friesoythe site with over 300 employees - in accordance with high GMP and FDA standards. At the beginning of 2023, the filling area and the personnel hygiene stations were expanded with pharmaceutically suitable operating equipment and guided hand hygiene.

Customer requirements and tasks

To expand capacity, the customer needed robust, welded stainless steel solutions that can be cleaned quickly, prevent particles and withstand audits. Required: mobile work furniture for filling (standing desk, serving trolley, desk, workshop trolley) and forced hand hygiene with connection to access. Material specification: Stainless steel 1.4301 with brushed surface (grain 320) for corrosion and cleaning resistance.

Project description and special features

Smooth surfaces, clean weld seams and short distances are what count in bottling. The mobile standing desk serves as a mobile control centre directly at the line: documents and end devices remain lockable, the large desk surface is wipe-disinfection resistant; polyamide rollers enable quiet, low-mark movement between line islands.

"You can tell that the furniture is designed for the cleanroom: no dead corners, nothing wobbles - and cleaning is quicker," confirms Wolfgang Kühter.

The serving trolley handles material flows without rattling - sound-absorbing shelves and rolled edges ensure quiet and safety. At the stainless steel desk, IPC test equipment and documentation are stored on a hard, hygienic surface with a splash-resistant backsplash; removable drawers make daily cleaning easier.

The workshop trolley keeps tools and spare parts within easy reach - full-extension runners provide complete access, while low-marking castors protect the floor and reduce particles.

In front of the cleanroom, the personnel hygiene stations structure the entrance in accordance with SOP. The swivelling bench visibly and practically separates "unclean" and "clean"; shoe compartments that can be fitted on both sides create order, while the plinth panel prevents dirt pockets.

The Cleancenter HL-CC-I (Highline) uses LED signals to guide you through the compulsory sequence - first the soap application, then the water flow, then the automatic disinfectant application.

The Siemens LOGO! can be parameterised to suit the practice (e.g. release of door contact); the automatic hygiene flush reduces the risk of legionella. The inner basin with R20 radii prevents build-up; all media-carrying components are accessible from the front - good for servicing and short downtimes.

Wolfgang Kühter: "Since the LED-guided manual hygiene, the process is clear - fewer queries, fewer operating errors, access is authorised. "

Summary

The austenitic stainless steel 1.4301 (AISI 304) is tried and tested in cleanrooms: corrosion-resistant to water, water vapour and many cleaning agents/disinfectants; mechanically robust with frequent cleaning cycles (no flaking of the coating). Brushed grain 320 surfaces minimise visible signs of use and can be wiped clean quickly. Tightly welded tubular frames, rolled edges and radius-orientated geometries reduce dead spaces, facilitate validation and accelerate drying.

The project in Friesoythe combines robust stainless steel operating equipment with clearly organised manual hygiene. The result: less cleaning effort, greater process clarity and audit-proof processes - from filling to the airlock. The combination of 1.4301, permanently welded construction, grain 320 finish, R20 bowl radii and LOGO! controlled forced sequence ensures hygiene safety, ergonomics and durability in everyday use.
