Pallet washing systems are used in industry wherever pallets - usually those made of plastic (H1) - need to be cleaned after use in order to be reused. This is particularly necessary in production operations, where strict hygiene regulations have to be complied with, for example in the foodstuff industry or the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industry. To a lesser extent, however, this also applies to businesses that produce food for the end consumer, for example industrial bakeries and industrial kitchens as well as in agricultural large-scale businesses. The extent to which the installation of a pallet washing system is worthwhile compared to manual cleaning depends on the volume of contaminated pallets, that is the company size.
In addition, systems for washing pallets are also used in complex production operations of the industry where there is a high volume of logistical use making regular cleaning of the pallets necessary. This applies to parts of the automotive industry, for example, but also for other ones. In the field of pallet washing systems, we at Mohn offer both systems that are intended purely for washing pallets and those that are intended for pallets and containers (e.g. boxes). The cleaning of pallets and containers must be carried out separately, however.
Pallet washing system without prewash zone

Pallet washing system with prewash zone
The pallet & container washing systems with prewash zone are designed for cleaning heavily soiled pallets and transport containers and are available exclusively in horizontal design. Depending on the model, the capacity of the pass-through washing systems amounts to a maximum of 1,200 boxes (two-track) or 150 H1 pallets (one-track) per hour.

DESIGN AND FUNCTION OF PALLET WASHING SYSTEMS 
The standard basic design of pallet washing systems from Mohn consists of a completely double-walled, sound- and heat-insulated machine housing with a main wash zone and an integrated final rinsing zone, whereby this basic module can be supplemented by a prewash zone and a blower module for drying - depending on customer requirements. Depending on the version of the respectively pallet washing system used, the pallets are transported through the washing tunnel either vertically (standing) or horizontally (lying) via motor-driven endless chain belts. Pallet washing systems with vertical loading are suited exclusively for cleaning pallets. Our pallet washing systems with horizontal conveyor belt loading, on the other hand, can also clean containers and boxes on two tracks simultaneously. Therefore, pallet washing systems with horizontal loading are clearly more flexible, efficient and cost-saving when cleaning different items to be washed.
After an optional cleaning in the prewash zone, a hot water/cleaning agent mixture is injected via stainless steel nozzles in the main wash zone; the pallets (or also containers) are thoroughly cleaned here under pressure. In the subsequent final rinsing zone, the items to be washed are freed from residues of the cleaning solution using fresh water. The fresh water used here is then fed via a special filter system to the main wash tank and returned to the system's circulation system in order to work as sustainably and resource-efficiently as possible.
FIELDS OF APPLICATION FOR PALLET WASHING SYSTEMS 
Foodstuff industry
In the foodstuff industry with its particularly high hygiene regulations, regular cleaning of pallets is a necessity to avoid contaminations. Depending on the operating mode and size, both pure pallet washing systems with vertical infeed and our combined pallet & container washing systems can prove useful. In the process, it should be noted that the combined pallet washing system can only accommodate one type of item to be washed at a time, i.e. pallets and containers cannot be simultaneously cleaned.
Meat industry
In the meat industry and other meat processing operations, too, pallet washing systems are often used to meet the high requirements of hygiene regulations. Depending on the company size, pallet washing systems ensure regular supply of clean pallets or also boxes for the transport of the products.
Bakeries and industrial kitchens
Depending on the company size, pallet washing systems can also be used meaningfully in bakeries and industrial kitchens. Depending on the quantity of pallets to be cleaned, pallet and container washing systems are often well suited here in order to ensure a good utilisation as possible due to universal loading.
Cosmetics and pharmaceutical industry
In the cosmetics industry or the pharmaceutical industry, where hygiene regulations are at least as strict as in the foodstuff industry, pallet washing systems are often a necessity. Depending on the type and size of operation, any pallet washing systems can be used meaningfully here, similar to the foodstuff industry.
