High-tech hygiene stations secures access for personnel and material

Since 2020, the Perwenitz Fleisch- und Wurstwaren GmbH company in Schönwalde-Glien, Germany has belonged to the Wilhelm Brandenburg quality butchery, which in turn has been part of REWE Group since 1986. Near Berlin, Germany, the company produces a national self-service and service range for REWE and Penny.

Task

In the course of integrating a new production line and the future orientation of the Perwenitz company production site, a concept for the transition from the workshop to production, as well as in front of the slicer area, was developed within a few weeks, in close cooperation with the hygiene technology specialists Mohn and the flooring specialists Hauptstadt Maler company. Of course, taking into account the IFS audit requirements that not only people, but also materials on forklift trucks, such as pallet trucks, pass through the hygiene stations.

Installation of two personnel hygiene stations with Profilgate material sluice planned in the room -at REWE Group company Perwenitz, Germany

Project description and special features

  • Mohn's concept for both hygiene stations, both in the area of the zone change to the slicer area and in the zone change from the workshop to the production area, included dirt traps with brush bodies (cleaning mats) embedded in the floor for cleaning the wheels of the floor conveyor vehicles. When the Profilgate cleaning mats are driven over or passed over, the brush strips become active due to their pre-tension. The slanted bristles effectively remove the dirt from the treads. This then collects in the integrated dirt traps underneath the gratings. This works without the use of motors and is therefore energy-saving.
  • An automatic dosing device, monitored by a Siemens Logo control system, ensures that the dirt traps are filled automatically and the disinfectant solution is replenished. Dirt is discharged via a filter basket in the floor drain.
  • Within the scope of the certification, it was particularly important that not only the wheels of the forklift trucks pass through the hygiene process before the zone change takes place, but also, and above all, that perfect personnel hygiene is guaranteed.
  • An unavoidable hygiene stations for hygienic cleaning of shoe soles and for cleaning and disinfecting hands was to be implemented, which takes into account the number of employees at the beginning of the shift, break times and the end of the shift, in order to avoid staff congestion at the hygiene components.
  • The transport and escape routes in the area of the hygiene stations were important to consider during the planning. Legally prescribed escape widths were realised using the specially developed and field-tested railing gates with magnetic locking system from Mohn.
  • In addition, the Perwenitz plant management stipulated that the double-leaf magnetic clamp gates system only receives an opening signal for the forklift to enter when the employees have gone through the personnel hygiene process and have authorised themselves for access at the hygiene stations with a so-called "badge". If the gates are not closed after entry, a local signal tone sounds after a freely adjustable time interval, which only ends after the employee has closed the gate system.
  • It is planned to couple the hygiene stations with the on-site fire alarm system in order to be able to guarantee the necessary safety in case of an emergency. The fire alarm system will then release the magnets.
