PERSONNEL HYGIENE STATION IN A CUTTING PLANT OF THE MEAT PROCESSING INDUSTRY

At Vion, a nationwide meat and food company with 600 employees in Hilden, an expansion of the personnel hygiene station in the access area to production was carried out in 2021. Two continuous sole cleaning systems with electric turnstile, one of them with force-guided hand disinfection, were installed at floor level in an existing shaft.

Task

In a personnel hygiene station planned in the room, it was necessary to replace an integrated sole cleaning system with hand disinfection and turnstile before accessing the production area due to age and function.

To meet the high hygiene standards in the meat processing industry and to be technically up to date, the company attached importance to a longer brush retention period for sole cleaning. The individual programmability of the installed Siemens Logo control unit allows here, for example, apart from the independent configuration options of the disinfectant dosing, a delay in the control of the opening hours for the turnstile if a longer cleaning of the soles is desired.

The topic of energy saving of water, chemicals and electricity should also not be disregarded when making a new purchase.

Moreover, the access control device had to be tamper-proof with regard to proper hand disinfection for both hands before entering the production area. So it was mandatory that both hands receive the required amount of disinfection liquid. Otherwise, the turnstile and thus access in the direction of production should remain locked.

Project description and special features

  • As a new access control system, before entering the production area, a single-track walk-through sole cleaning machine including a 2-hand disinfection unit with a turnstile of type Clean-Check Highline was integrated into an on-site shaft. The sanitizer unit is equipped with a tamper-proof sensor control technology (Siemens Logo). Trickery through, for example, one-handed application attempts or deception of the employees is impossible. When the set amount of disinfection liquid has been applied to both hands, the electric turnstile releases access to the production area for one person. The electric turnstile is permanently blocked for the way back. The media connections for electricity and water are here installed from the ceiling.
  • The way back from production is designed in such a way that employees do not get in each other's way during shift changes, distances are maintained and personnel congestion is avoided.
For this purpose, a single-track walk-through sole cleaning machine including mechanical turnstile type Sole-Star Highline/ MDK was provided. Accordingly, the shoe soles should be cleaned before entering the social/changing rooms. Here, the mechanical turnstile type DK-M Highline is permanently released on the way back, and permanently blocked in the direction of production in order to avoid "circulating" hand disinfection in the direction of production.
  • The shaft installation of both sole cleaning systems for the way to and back from production not only allows convenient, ground-level access via the walking grate of the sole cleaning, but also cleaning of the brush rollers or the entire system within the shaft. The shaft has a centrally positioned stainless steel floor drain for the waste water.
  • With integrated sole cleaning, the installed hygiene stations additionally score with a patented innovation. The brush rollers are only activated when entering the walking grate and stop again immediately when leaving. Innovative, fully encapsulated sensors, in conjunction with the patented spring cap technology, ensure lower energy (power, water and chemicals) consumption thanks to an ultra-short response time.
  • With conventional hygiene stations which are predominantly on the market, the brushes are already "running" before the personnel enters the walking grate to clean the soles.
  • Moreover, the very reliably working spring cap technology has the further advantage that sole cleaning functions just as smoothly for people with dark, rather than white, trousers. Hygiene stations with conventional sensor technology (reflection light scanners) are known to have the problem that people with dark clothing are not detected and the brush rollers do not work.
  • The optimised railing guidance and the control of the person separation by means of a turnstile also make the hygiene station an inescapable facility in its individual steps.
  • With the installed Siemens Logo! 8 control unit, the implemented hygiene stations from Mohn are capable of much more than perfect personal hygiene. In the age of Industry 4.0, it is no longer technically complicated to upgrade them to a smart machine with an integrable wlan adapter and the "Intelligent Control" process visualisation system. Also, of course, multi-compatible with many other process visualisation systems, such as WinCC or Aveva.
