Industrial washing machine in the meat industry

For a manufacturer of numerous meat and sausage specialities in northern Germany, Mohn GmbH has realised an industrial washing machine that cleans both baking pans and pie tins as well as lattice slats in a continuous process. The installation is based on a single-tank washing system of the Highline series, which is adapted to the application with its tunnel dimensions, tank volume and filter system.

Project description and special features

  • The hourly output of the industrial washing plant is approx. 100 to 150 baking pans and pie tins. It is also possible to clean lattice slats with dimensions of 995 x 490 x H 140 mm in the system. The width of the washing tunnel is 700 mm. The foms and lattice slats are each conveyed through the washing system in the longitudinal direction. Due to their narrow width of up to 160 mm, the liver cheese and pâté moulds are conveyed through the washing tunnel in two lanes. The height of the washing tunnel is adjusted to the height of the grating handles.
  • The customised design of the stainless steel conveyor belt with welded-on mint pick-ups is specially adapted to the items to be washed and helps to ensure that the moulds are always at a certain distance from each other so that the end faces do not bump into each other and their cleaning can be guaranteed in the same way.
  • Two generously dimensioned stainless steel centrifugal pumps with a total pump output of 23 kW at a circulation of 3,000 l/min at a washing pressure of 3 bar ensure a high cleaning performance. The capacity of the tank is around 1000 litres with a separate external box filter.
  • The large external box filter absorbs coarse dirt such as dried meat residues. Here the soiling is rinsed into the external filter which can be cleaned also during running operation.
  • The tank has a steam tube heat exchanger made of V4A with a heating capacity of 40 kW to heat the washing temperature to around 55 to 60°C, so that even baked-on dirt can be removed effectively. An included condensate return ensures that the residual energy of the condensate can be further used in the boiler house. The fresh water supplied by the customer for the rinse zone is also heated by steam.
  • After a fresh water rinse to remove excess detergent - the water runs into the tank via a cascade system, floating dirt is flushed out via the filter - the moulds or grid slats move into the 1500 mm long discharge zone.
  • A vapour extraction system, each with extraction points in the inlet and outlet area of the industrial washing system, ensures a significant reduction of condensation water during operation of the system.
  • The total length of the system without blow down function is around 8,000 mm.
