Boot cleaning
Boot cleaning technology for the foodstuff industry
Boot cleaning is a part of every hygiene concept when it shall be avoided to carry in and out contaminations between a production area (hygiene area) and other areas such as a delivery zone or social rooms. In the process, the systems for cleaning boots are designed to clean boot shafts, soles and sole edges. The cleaning process of the systems functions using special brushes as well as a mixture of disinfectants and detergents thinned with water. In operations where work shoes or clogs are worn, special systems for sole cleaning or sole disinfection are used anyway.
The necessity of intense cleaning of boots, that is of their legs, soles and sole edges is always given whenever they are soiled in production. Due to the forcibly-guided boot cleaning the soiling is limited to the production area. Should it be sensible, the cleaning can be of course also carried out before entering the production area in order to avoid carrying in contaminations via the boots. Apart from operations of the foodstuff industry, boot cleaning is also important in slaughterhouses or agricultural operations with livestock farming (stables) where it increasingly comes to contaminations due to blood or other organic substances.
Generally, we distinguish between systems for boot cleaning in forcibly-guided and stationary solutions:
For sensitive production areas such as in the food-processing industry and here, above all, in large-scale businesses of the meat industry, a forcibly-guided boot cleaning in a hygiene station is mostly prescribed by the food regulatory authority. In case of a high number of employees who have to be “guided through”, this inevitable boot cleaning solution in interaction with further hygiene facilities for hand cleaning and hand disinfectionensures a safe and reliable personnel and industrial hygiene.
The situation is different with regard to small craft businesses, such as butcheries and butcher shops for which a stationary solution for boot cleaningis mostly the better choice due to a limited space concept. The necessity for cleaning within the scope of a personnel hygiene concept (HACCP) is here mainly regulated via an operational directive. This type of hygiene concepts can be often found in small family businesses or businesses up to 10 employees, where the mutual hygiene education can still take place at eye level.
Stationary boot cleaning
In the product category of boot cleaning we offer types of systems standing on supporting feet. These systems are either equipped with rotating brushes to clean the boots or as a sluice have 2 water-flown hand brushes on hoses to clean boot legs and sole edges.
Forced-guided boot cleaning
Systems for forced-guided boot cleaning have the advantage that they can be passed through only when the boot cleaning has also been carried out. In this category we offer models for boot cleaning as well as combined sole and boot cleaning systems in different versions.
Combined boot cleaning

Planning and implementation of boot cleaning within the scope of a personnel hygiene station | Mohn GmbH
Boot cleaning is usually always only one part of a comprehensive hygiene concept. From the point of view of the process, boot cleaning takes place either at the beginning or the end of a necessary cleaning process and combines cleaning with sole disinfection. With the models for combined boot cleaning, the work apron can be additionally cleaned right away in this process which otherwise would require its own system which normally should be arranged upstream the boot cleaning.
Our specially trained employees are glad to advise you regarding the conception and implementation of boot cleaning systems into the hygiene concept of your business.
